Creative makers from Fiction Factory in Amsterdam developed Wikkelhouse, a house made out of cardboard. The modular layout is highly flexible; it is 100% recyclable and needs no foundations. The lightweight segments are easy to transport and assemble; it takes only 1 day to build, but lasts a lifetime.

“Wikkelen” is Dutch for wrapping, Wikkelhouse is made out of 24 layers of top-quality cardboard wrapped around a mould and bonded with eco-friendly superglue. The result is a robust sandwich structure with optimal heat and acoustic insulation qualities.

A number of segments connect to form your house, office, pop-up, guesthouse or whatever you would like to do with it. Each segment weighs about 500 kilos and measures: length 4,5 m x width 1,2 m x height 3,5 m. This makes it easy to transport and assemble on site. It takes just one day to place your dream house by the beach. As foundations are not necessary, you can put it anywhere you want, really.

Wikkelhouse is sustainably produced with materials that have minimal impact on the environment and is durable. It is finished with waterproof yet breathable foil and wood panelling to protect it from all weather conditions. The life cycle expectance is 50 years minimum.
An airframe Wikkelhouse composed of 3 segments costs about €25.000,- without transport and installation.
